Quitting Smoking With Chantix

Chantix Blog

So I've been on Chantix for about 14 days now, and I am very pleased with the drug overall. As a smoker for 13 years (between 11-20+ cigs a day), I haven't had a cigarette in 7 days and am going strong.

However I haven't found any good resources for Chantix users on the web (I could never get my Chantix club id on my prescription box to work!) so I figured I would start this blog.

I hope people actually find this site, and maybe we can share our experiences here.

I'm 25 years old. I have smoked for about 9 years. I tried everything like everyone else it seems. I'm on my second week, and this medication is wonderful. I don't wanna smoke, I don't smell like smoke, and my teeth are getting whiter every day, YAY! I'm just very excited, I was prepared for the usual battle with mood and concentration problems, but that was not the case. I haven't had any side effects yet. But I say bring it on as long as I never smoke again. Good luck to everyone!!!

I am 63 and tried to quit many, many times. I was coughing continuously and that did it for me. I quit on Christmas. Have been struggling with withdrawls, but hanging in there. A relative of mine told me about Chantix. I called my doc and he gave me a script. Fifteen minutes after I took it all my withdrawls and munchies feelings were completely gone. I feel like I have been set free. I am going to go through the 12 weeks tho cuz I am still humble and can't believe that I actually quit and don't want another cigarette in my life. Good Luck to everyone.

I tried to sign up for "GetQuit" on the Pfizer web site but it didn't work. Where do we go on the net to sign up for it? Thank in advance.

Hello, I am 36 years old and I took my first Chantix pill today. After, I took the pill I went to smoke a cigarette. It was like smoking on a straw. I think this medication is really going to work for me. I am a senior nursing student, but I have worked in a doctor's office for about 4 years now. I see people coming in all the time with their oxygen tanks because they have some type of COPD. It is so sad!! I m going to be a good nurse, but I also want to model good behaviors too. How can I encourage a patient to stop smoking, when I smoke myself? It's just not nice. I also want to quit for my family!! Good luck to all!!

I think that Chantix is amazing. Other than on my second day I was extremely nauseous and actually vomited. I have to admit it was my fault as I decided to smoke my morning cigarette less five minutes after I took the pill. I am only on day three and already am seeing some major changes with my habit. I can easily see myself completely quitting after the first week. Good luck to everyone.

One thing that I wasn't warned about was the withdraw. I assume that as the Chantix blocks the nicotine you can smoke as much as you want and it just doesn't register with your body. I believe that this is the reason that I have been a bit cranky and tired. I have to admit though it is much, much, more manageable than going cold turkey.

I never had any problem with anxiety or crankiness when i started with chantix. When i tried quitting with the patch several times i turned into a complete monster, so i was prepared for the worst. I am a software engineer and was used to a cigarette on an hourly basis, plus two on the way to work in the morning and two on the way home in the evenings.

Stay tough, its worth it!

I started taking Chantix 1 month before I actually quit. For the 2 weeks prior to quiting, I decided to cut down. I quit smoking at work at all first. So I was smoking about 4 a day for 2 weeks. On On 2/4/07 I ran out and decided to not buy anymore. On Sunday this week it will be 1 month smokefree. I think Chantix does help quite a bit. I still have cravings everyday, but just keep reminding myself that I have come to far to start again. I found that if I eat a piece of toast before taking the pill I do not get the upset stomach. I have had the despression for the past few weeks. I think I will cut my dosage in half and see if this helps. Good Luck to everyone and as my husband says If you relapse "Never Quit Trying To Quit"!

Thank you PK for the Blog! I am a 45 y/o woman who has smoked for 20 give or take years. I quit for almost 4 years when I found out that I was pregnant with my dauther, who is now 18! I started back-up as some women have to lose that baby weight--well, stupid is as stupid does! Been smokin' ever since and my cardio doctor has shown me what it has done. I have blockages in both my carotid arteries and blockage in my aorta at the top of my stomach! I started the Chantix and now today, May 6, 2007, is my 14th day and 7th day smoke free! I haven't had any real hard side effects other than I have been crying a lot. My husband suffered a stroke on Jun 2nd of this year. We have lost all that we have known to be our life since our 23 years of marriage. I am a true, and I mean TRUE STRESS Smoker and I have come to the terms that there is always gonna be stress in my life and smokin' only will make it worse. Yes, seeing my husband at the age of 48 (SMOKED TOO--NOT ANYMORE) have a stroke and the help of my cardio doc, who was gonna help our daughter get through all of this? It's been real hard. I haven't had the nico cravings, but I do deal with the "triggers" that I know that are behavioral and have to keep reminding myself that there are better ways to deal with stress. It was just so much easier lighting a cigarette. People are asking me how I could possibly stop smokin' with everything going on in my life? I of course, have to realize that there will always be stress--it's a core component of "livin' and learnin'" in life..but, I know that down the road I will be around to see my 18 y/o daughter graduate from college and hopefully have a happy and healthy life. And I will too. My husband had to learn the hard way. Keep in there CHANTIXIES! Remember to HUG YOURSELF! WE ARE GIVING OURSELVES THE GIFT OF A HEALTHY LIFE! PK--Please get back to the site! Let Me Know How Far You Are!
SMOKIN' OR NOT!! Mary

I am on Day 14 of using Chantix. I quit on day 8 & had suffered a bit of depression for about the 1st week of taking chantix. The depression is finally going away & my cravings are gone! This IS really working for me! I had tried every method to quit before. I smoked for 20 years.
