3 months, 4 weeks and one day later...
And still not smoking!
Can you guess how many cigarettes that amounts to? Assuming a (modest) smoking rate of 12 death sticks a day, i have not smoked 1,443 cigarettes! That's $263.50!
I know i've been lazy with this blog, but I have to be honest with you guys, both smoking, and quitting is now a thing of the past! Its amazing to think that days go by without me even thinking of a cigarette, let alone craving one!
Every little bit of nausea I had in the process was well worth it. My car stopped smelling like cigarettes about a month and a half ago! I feel totally liberated!

Agreed. This med is phenonmenal. Starting my 3rd week of Chantix today, and been completely smoke free for 2 weeks now. Cravings are minimal, though I noticed a little today when around a family member that smokes. But was able to resist the urge with no problem. Even went out for some drinks with friends and didn't have a cig. I took a single drag off a friend's cig as a test and damn near wanted to throw up. I've tried cold turkey, the patch, and Zyban in the past with no success. Zyban helped the cravings but the insomnia was overwhelming. Have had zero side effects from Chantix, no nausea, no depression, a little late morning insomnia (but I think that's stress induced from work). This stuff is fantastic and well work the cost. I can honestly see myself as smoke free the rest of my life now, something I don't think I ever felt in my past quitting attempts.
Thank you PK for the Blog! I am a 45 y/o woman who has smoked for 20 give or take years. I quit for almost 4 years when I found out that I was pregnant with my dauther, who is now 18! I started back-up as some women have to lose that baby weight--well, stupid is as stupid does! Been smokin' ever since and my cardio doctor has shown me what it has done. I have blockages in both my carotid arteries and blockage in my aorta at the top of my stomach! I started the Chantix and now today, May 6, 2007, is my 14th day and 7th day smoke free! I haven't had any real hard side effects other than I have been crying a lot. My husband suffered a stroke on Jun 2nd of this year. We have lost all that we have known to be our life since our 23 years of marriage. I am a true, and I mean TRUE STRESS Smoker and I have come to the terms that there is always gonna be stress in my life and smokin' only will make it worse. Yes, seeing my husband at the age of 48 (SMOKED TOO--NOT ANYMORE) have a stroke and the help of my cardio doc, who was gonna help our daughter get through all of this? It's been real hard. I haven't had the nico cravings, but I do deal with the "triggers" that I know that are behavioral and have to keep reminding myself that there are better ways to deal with stress. It was just so much easier lighting a cigarette. People are asking me how I could possibly stop smokin' with everything going on in my life? I of course, have to realize that there will always be stress--it's a core component of "livin' and learnin'" in life..but, I know that down the road I will be around to see my 18 y/o daughter graduate from college and hopefully have a happy and healthy life. And I will too. My husband had to learn the hard way. Keep in there CHANTIXIES! Remember to HUG YOURSELF! WE ARE GIVING OURSELVES THE GIFT OF A HEALTHY LIFE! PK--Please get back to the site! Let Me Know How Far You Are!
SMOKIN' OR NOT!! Mary
I'm nearing age 61 and had smoked since the age of 19. August 5th 2007 was the last day I smoked a cigarette. Now it's late October. Still haven't smoked again. And I have stopped thinking as often about suicide. I have to say that in all my years of ups and downs and mood swings, suicide was never a part of my thought processes. When I was down, I just allowed myself the luxury of being non-productive, knowing that "mood" would pass. But while taking that third month's prescription of Chantix during July and for about a month afterwards, suicide became a real "curiosity" for me, something I thought about and did a little research on. I wasn't wildly emotional, quite the opposite.
So, this is a mixed review of the drug. Yes, I have stopped smoking for a few months now after forty years of smoking between one and two packs a day. No, I have no urge or desire to buy cigarettes and resume the habit. Yes, I still miss the act/action of smoking. No, I don't miss the rude looks [or the averted eyes of those looking away] from others when I did smoke. No, I don't think about suicide or do "google" research on it anymore. No, my dreams are still not quite right.
Chantix is an anti-smoking pill, which will enable smokers to quit smoking. For smokers who are prescribed chantix to purchase, they will be offered with an opportunity to enroll in a behavioral modification program called "GETQUIT Support Plan" at no additional cost. Chantix to help smokers quit smoking; we hope to take a positive step towards improving the health of smokers, their families and friends, and society in general. http://www.chantixhome.com/
